Russell Crowe: Bachelor Ways Wind Down

It looks like international playboy Russell Crowe is ready to settle down. His publicist has confirmed that the leading man and his longtime girlfriend, Danielle Spencer, are engaged.

According to the "Gladiator" Oscar winner's local paper, the New Zealand Herald, it was a huge Cartier diamond engagement ring, estimated to be worth $250,000 and first spotted by British reporters, that gave away the couple's secret.

Publicist Wendy Day said: "He proposed to her on November 26 at Darcy's restaurant in Paddington (an area in Sydney, Australia) after having phoned her father the night before. Her father kept it a secret."

Crowe, 38, and Spencer, 32 -- of whom he recently said, "I feel a great need to wake up with her as many days of my life as I can" -- contacted their parents from the restaurant after the proposal had been accepted. Crowe reportedly arrived for dinner carrying an armful of white roses.

Once Spencer accepted his proposal, the two of them celebrated with a bottle of sauvignon blanc, the Herald reports.

Spencer, a singer and actress, met Crowe on the set of the 1990 film "The Crossing" and their relationship continued until 1995, when, with his star on the rise (as was his reputation for hell-raising), their separations became longer and longer.

The Herald reports that Spencer read Crowe the riot act after his alleged recent brawl in a London restaurant, telling him to "get serious" -- and choose between her or his freewheeling lifestyle.

No wedding date has been set, though Day said it would not occur before the middle of next year.
