Paul Newman, who turns 78 next month (and sure doesn't look it), is getting raves for his role as the stage manager in the 1938 American classic "Our Town," which re-opened on Broadway Wednesday night. "Make no mistake," says The Washington Post. "He is the star here." Robert Redford, 65, meanwhile, has criticized the Bush administration in a Los Angeles Times commentary for the White House's failing to address U.S. dependence on fossil fuels. Redford warns that the president's energy policy "to date -- a military garrison in the Middle East and drilling for more oil in the Arctic and other fragile habitats -- is costly, dangerous and self-defeating."

HURT: CNN anchor Paula Zahn, 46, is in good spirits after breaking a bone below her knee while skiing in Aspen over Thanksgiving weekend, a network spokeswoman tells the Associated Press. "She's determined to get back to her normal schedule as soon as possible," said Christa Robinson. Zahn underwent surgery to insert screws and a metal plate in the knee area, according to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN's medical correspondent.

AWARDED: Wednesday's VH1 Big In 2002 awards honored -- in irreverent fashion -- some of the most memorable entertainment moments of the year, AP reports. Ice Cube, who won in the category, "Shakespeare in Da Hiz-House" (which honored rappers in movies), held his trophy -- a gold submarine -- and stared at it. "Whatever it is, it's for you," he told the cheering audience. Among the other awards: "Strange But True," which honored reality TV ("The Osbournes"); "Do I Look Fat in This Fight," which honored women fighting in movies (Lucy Liu in "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever"); and "Rockin' and Rulin'," which honored rock legends (Paul McCartney).
