"Saving Private Ryan" actor Tom Sizemore was arrested over the weekend after a woman claimed he "punched her in the face and threw her to the ground," the Associated Press reports.

The name of the woman, who filed a report to Van Nuys, Calif., police on Saturday, was not released.

Sizemore's attorney, Robert Barta, called the allegations unfounded and says they were part of a "shakedown" for money by the woman, says AP, which also reports that officers went to an address provided by the woman and took Sizemore, 38, into custody without incident.

He was booked for investigation of domestic battery, which is a misdemeanor, and released on $2,500 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 8.

In addition to "Private Ryan," Sizemore has appeared in such films as "True Romance," "Natural Born Killers" and most recently, "Pearl Harbor," "Black Hawk Down" and "Big Trouble." He currently stars as Detective Sam Cole on the CBS series "Robbery Homicide Division."

Sizemore, a Detroit native, is currently estranged from wife Maeve Quinlan, an actress who was formerly on the soaps "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "General Hospital."

In 1997, he was reportedly arrested in Los Angeles after his wife called police and claimed she had been physically injured by Sizemore during an argument at their apartment. She later refused to press charges.

Sizemore has also been romantically linked to former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss.
