BOOKED: Sting, 51, is set to perform during Sunday's Super Bowl XXXVII halftime show in San Diego, joining previously announced entertainers No Doubt and Shania Twain. Also on the bill for the pre-game show is the kick off to a yearlong, 100th birthday party for Bob Hope, who hits the landmark May 29. (The comic legend will not attend the game, as he has been in ill health.) Other Hope-filled events include film festivals across the country and exhibits at U.S. presidential libraries. The first is to open Feb. 17 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California.
CONFESSED: Action star Jackie Chan, 48, has confessed to the Associated Press that sometimes that's not him in his movies. "I will use stunt doubles if you ask me to ride an F-16 jet fighter, or to jump over a series of hurdles with a crazy horse, or to perform two 720-degree somersaults," said Chan. "But one somersault, I'll do it myself ... I will do what I could do and I won't do anything that is out of my capability." Chan, who's been known for doing his own stunts, was responding to a recent story in the South China Morning Post that said he used at least seven stunt doubles in "The Tuxedo."
CONFLICTED: Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, 60, did not cooperate with authorities investigating an Oct. 25 fire that destroyed her $1.6-million Michigan mansion, according to a police report. The Detroit News reports that Bloomfield Township police claim that, after the blaze, officers were rebuffed repeatedly while trying to interview Franklin, who told detectives by phone that she was "too tired" to talk and would call back. Last week, Franklin's publicist said in a statement that Franklin and her attorneys have been "cooperative from the very beginning."
RESURRECTED: The 1961-66 CBS sitcom "Mr. Ed," about a talking horse and his human pal Wilbur (actor Alan Young, now 83), is being revived for FOX TV, reports Variety. Rather than a deep almost Southern-drawl-like voice, this new Ed "will speak with a more urban voice a la Eddie Murphy or Eddie Griffin," says the trade paper. No airdate has been announced.
