PASSAGES: Shania to Bowl Crowds Over
NAMED: The National Football League announced Monday that Grammy winner Shania Twain, 37, will perform live at the Super Bowl in San Diego on Sunday, Jan. 26, at Qualcomm Stadium. Her latest release is "Up!" Other halftime performers have not yet been announced for the event, which will air on ABC.
ENGAGED: Australian "Torn" singer Natalie Imbruglia, 27, and Daniel Johns, 23, frontman for the grunge band Silverchair, have confirmed their engagement after months of media speculation, Reuters reports. In a brief statement released Monday, Johns's record company EMI said the couple, together since 1999, got engaged just before Christmas and that they were extremely happy, as were their families.
DONATED: Bob Hope, who turns 100 in May, and his wife of 68 years, Dolores, 93, have donated $1 million for a welcome center and auditorium in Florida at the Air Force Enlisted Foundation's housing complex, which will be named for the comedian, reports the Associated Press. Groundbreaking is set for Monday, and the housing complex is for widows of Air Force enlisted men. The Hopes' TV producer daughter, Linda Hope, 63, will attend, says the news service.
DENIED: Convicted killer Michael Skakel, 42, will not be permitted to attend the funeral of his father, Rushton Skakel, 79, who died of a brain illness, according to AP. (Rushton is the brother of Ethel Kennedy, widow of Robert Kennedy.) Michael Skakel, who was sentenced in June, is serving 20 years to life for the 1975 murder of neighbor Martha Moxley.
