Britney with Justin? Or Fred Durst?

Mystery appears to be swirling around Britney Spears's love life after contradictory reports have been surfacing on both sides of the Atlantic.

The New York Post claims that the pop princess and deposed Pepsi pitchwoman, 21, was spotted at a post-American Music Awards party with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, also 21, and that it seemed just like old times -- they were "kissing and holding hands."

But British tabloids are insisting that she has been seen with Fred Durst, 31, the frontman for Limp Bizkit.

Adding fuel to the British tabloid fire, Durst has posted a few words about his feelings for Spears on his band's Web site.

Writes Durst: "Anybody out there who has a serious problem with my feelings for Britney should just chill and worry about your own feelings for a minute. You can't help what happens in life because everything happens for a reason. I believe that."

Durst goes on to say that he is "a good judge of character, and so is she. It just happens to be a person that I would have thought could make me feel this way. And believe that I have never felt this way, so there."

(No, it doesn't make sense to us, either.)

There has been no comment on this latest development from Spears or Timberlake.
