Simon Cowell may wish to sound off to Trista Rehn. And the Osbournes may wish to sound off to everybody.
In reality ratings news, some early results are in, and it's great for FOX's "American Idol," less great for ABC's "The Bachelorette" and outright lousy for MTV's "The Osbournes."
The FOX talent show, featuring insulting judge Simon Cowell (among others), continues to be a sensation, attracting just under 25 million viewers on Wednesday, the second night of its second season. The previous evening, the season premiere drew a record-setting 26.5 million viewers.
"Idol" went toe-to-toe with ABC's hit, "The Bachelorette," with Rehn at the reigns as a woman looking for the right guy, in twin 90-minute episodes.
The ABC show wooed 13.4 million Wednesday. While still respectable, notes the Associated Press, the figure was still 4 million less than watched the previous week, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Meanwhile, ratings for MTV's hit reality sitcom "The Osbournes" have been tumbling in its second season -- from a high of 6.6 million viewers for its Nov. 26 premiere, to 3.5 million on Jan. 14. This week's episode managed to draw 3.8 million.
The new tone of the show -- which is dealing with Sharon's cancer treatments -- and overall Osbourne fatigue may be among the factors to blame, say industry observers.
Last week on ABC, Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly and Jack Osbourne also hosted the American Music Awards, which suffered its worst ratings ever.
