Celine Dion Has a Spectacular 'Day'
Despite some missing footwear, the diva's gamble pays off with strong ratings for CBS's broadcast of her stage show, "A New Day."

Except for a stolen pair of shoes, the opening night of Celine Dion's "A New Day" -- a live show slated for a three-year run at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas -- went off without a hitch and scored some strong TV ratings for the Canadian diva.
Some 13 million fans tuned in to CBS's one-hour "behind-the-scenes" sneak peek, which showed the newly blonde, short-haired Dion being put through her dance paces and sampled her extravagant stage show, held at the new $95 million Colosseum theater.
The Tuesday night special became the second most popular televised concert of the season behind Faith Hill's Thanksgiving show on NBC, reports Variety.
The only opening-night snafu during the complex show -- designed by Franco Dragone, formerly of Cirque du Soleil -- came when Dion lost her shoes while flying offstage on a harness at the end of one song. The shoes were MIA upon Dion's barefoot return to the stage, but the diva smiled gamely as a new pair was brought out for her, reports Reuters.
Dion, who will earn a reported $100 million from her three-year gig, has said that she was prompted to move to Sin City so that she could continue to work in one place without exposing her toddler son, Rene Charles, to the rigors of life on the road. Her latest CD, "One Heart," also debuted this week.
