Now, VH1's younger-skewing sister, MTV, has announced it will air "Madonna On Stage & On The Record" on Tuesday, April 22 at l0 p.m. The one-hour special will feature Madonna's debut performance of songs from her upcoming new studio album "American Life" -- which, as it so happens, is due in stores that day.
The show, which MTV calls "exclusive and intimate," will be hosted by Carson Daly and taped live in the network's Times Square studios in Manhattan. Also included will be an interview with Madonna conducted by MTV's John Norris and a live Q&A with a studio audience.
The in-studio spectators will be winners of a ticket giveaway being held on several Infinity radio stations. Also in attendance will be two lucky people who place winning ticket bids on eBay -- as part of a sale that will go directly into the coffers of the T.J. Martell Foundation (a music-industry organization that raises money for leukemia, cancer and AIDS research).
The eBay auction starts Thursday.
As Madonna said in a statement Tuesday: "When I look back on my career, so many of my favorite TV moments have happened on MTV."
For those MTV viewers who might be too young to remember, she reminds us that they include "singing 'Like A Virgin' at the first MTV Video Music Awards, performing 'Vogue' and 'Express Yourself' at subsequent MTV Awards shows, interviews with Kurt Loder from all over the world.
"I'm really looking forward to continuing the tradition," she adds.
