NBC's "Today" co-host Katie Couric and "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno will switch jobs for a day on May 12, a network spokesman announced Thursday, Reuters reports.

The gimmick will mark the first time since 1992 that someone other than Leno has hosted the "Tonight Show," since he beat out former NBC host David Letterman to replace Johnny Carson in 1992.

Leno, 52, tells TV's "Access Hollywood" that the idea for the swap came from Couric, 46.

"People like her, she has an infectious personality, and she's so cute that if she bombs, she can get away with it because she's cute," said Leno. "If I bomb, it's 'boo hiss.'"

No word on who her guests will be -- and no comment yet from Katie herself, who was not at her regular "Today" perch on Friday.

Meanwhile, in other TV news that should have David Caruso and his fans jumping for joy, A&E Network has snapped up rerun rights to "CSI: Miami," the "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" spin-off, for more than $1 million per episode, says the Hollywood Reporter.

The trade paper notes that it's almost unheard of for a show to secure a syndication sale before the end of its first season. The episodes are due to start running this fall, and are intended to fill the gap created when TNT took "Law & Order" reruns away from A&E.
