WED: "Lord of the Rings" actress Liv Tyler, 25, daughter of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, married British-born Royston Langdon, 30, lead singer of the band Spacehog, in a private ceremony at a villa in the Caribbean on March 25, her publicist tells the Associated Press. It is the first marriage for both. The couple plan a small reception for family and friends next month in New York, where the couple live, says the rep.
SENTENCED: Jason Mewes, 28, who played a stoned slacker in such Kevin Smith films as "Clerks" and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," has been ordered by a New jersey judge to complete drug rehabilitation or face jail, after he surrendered and pleaded guilty on Tuesday to probation violation charges. The actor reportedly failed to report for a court hearing stemming from a 1999 heroin conviction. He had a warrant issued for his arrest in December 2001. If he violates parole again, he faces up to five years in prison.
DIED: Nashville-born soul singer Edwin Starr, 61, whose 1970 hit "War" denounced conflict as good for "absolutely nothing," has died of a heart attack at his home in central England, his manager tells Reuters. Born Charles Hatcher, Starr gained fame in the mid 1960s with a series of soul hits, including "Agent Double-O-Soul," which he promoted by appearing in a short film with the original James Bond, Sean Connery.
BOUGHT: "Chicago" Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Renee Zellweger has purchased what is described by the New York Observer as a modest, 2,200-sq.-ft., 1880s two-story farmhouse in East Hampton Village, N.Y. She paid nearly $2 million for it, says the newspaper. "It's genuinely old, and it hasn't been meddled with," a broker said. The Los Angeles Times recently reported that Zellweger, 33, also bought a house in California's tony Bel Air neighborhood last year for $6.8 million and put a $7.5 million "for sale" sign on it this February.
