Martha Stewart is going to the dogs. And cats, rabbits, parrots ... well, you get the idea.
Actually, the idea is to expand Stewart's battered company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc., to include a new TV show to debut in September, "Petkeeping with Marc Morrone," that will offer tips on the care of domestic furry and feathered friends, the company has announced.
The half-hour syndicated TV shows will be produced by Martha Stewart Living Television and hosted by pet expert Morrone, who has appeared on Stewart's regular TV shows, along with his family of pets -- Harry the Scarlet Macaw, Dixie the Dachshund, Bubbles the Prairie Dog and Harvey the Flemish Giant rabbit.
So far, says Reuters, the show is set to air in more than 130 U.S. TV markets.
"From the first moment in l998 that I saw Marc and his colorful menagerie, I knew that he would prove to be an ideal teacher and brand representative for those eager to learn how to care for and enjoy living with pets," Stewart, a dog lover who owns two Chow Chows, said in a statement.
Although her federal case has been quiet since for the past couple of months, Stewart is under investigation for alleged insider trading regarding her disposal of 400 shares of a pharmaceutical stock a day before the FDA said it was not going to approve the firm's cancer drug.
Stewart, 60, has pleaded her innocence, but her own company's stock price has suffered as a result of the accusations.
