John Cusack, Ray Liotta and Amanda Peet see their thriller "Identity" take off, while Edward Burns and Michael Douglas fall flat.

There was anything but an "Identity" crisis at the box office this weekend, with the thriller starring John Cusack, Ray Liotta and Amanda Peet as stranded travelers unseating Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson's "Anger Management" in the No. 1 spot.
The film took in $17 million, according to studio estimates. Meanwhile, "Anger Management" followed with $16 million, giving the comedy $104.5 million in total ticket sales.
The major surprise of the weekend was the lousy opening for the so-called reality movie "The Real Cancun," a big-screen variation of MTV's "The Real World," which tanked in 10th place with $2.3 million.
Other weaklings were Edward Burns and Dustin Hoffman in the highly stylized (some critics said overly stylized) "Confidence," and the Kirk and Michael Douglas clan in the comic drama "It Runs in the Family."
This weekend's Top 10 movies were as follows:
1. "Identity," $17 million
2. "Anger Management," $16 million
3. "Holes," $13 million
4. "Malibu's Most Wanted," $7.7 million
5. "Confidence," $4.8 million
6. "Bulletproof Monk," "$4.7 million
7. "What a Girl Wants," $3.4 million
8. "Phone Booth," $3.1 million
9. "It Runs in the Family," $3 million
10. "The Real Cancun," $2.3 million
