ATTENDED: Oprah Winfrey, 49, was more than just a casual observer Friday night at the premiere of "Charlie's War" at the Nashville Film Festival. She was there as a proud daughter. Her father, Vernon, a Nashville barber and former councilman, has a role in the independent film, reports the Associated Press. "I'm excited to see what he can do on the screen," she told reporters as she entered the theater.

DELAYED: Officials in Santa Barbara County, Calif., on Friday postponed discussion on a request by Michael Jackson, 44, to alter the tax status of his 2,700-acre Neverland Ranch, reports AP. The Agricultural Preserve Advisory Committee agreed to reconvene in June to review Jackson's application to opt out of the Williams Act, a tax break generally given to ranchers and farmers who preserve undeveloped land.

QUOTED: "That made me smile, man, for months. I'd be in bed, and I'd be like, 'Hah, hah, hah, hah!'" -- Keanu Reeves, 38, to the Toronto Star, on giving a dozen Harleys as gifts to the stuntmen of the upcoming "Matrix Reloaded," for a job well done.

ABETTED: The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival got an unexpected bit of help from actor John Goodman, 50, this weekend, reports AP. Goodman got up and sang "When the Saints Go Marching In" after being asked by clarinetist and local legend Pete Fountain. Goodman, wearing a yellow polo shirt and khaki shorts, told the appreciative crowd, "Pardon me for loitering in front of an orchestra."

DIED: George Wyle, 87, who wrote the theme song to "Gilligan's Island" and directed music for singers including Andy Williams (for whom he wrote the Christmas perennial "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year"), died Friday of leukemia at the Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center in Tarzana, his son Jerry Weissman told AP.
