And Now, 'Winona Ryder -- The Musical'

London has a new opera about Jerry Springer, and now a San Diego, Calif., high school has its own musical about Winona Ryder.

Point Loma High School's "Sticky Fingers: A Tale of Saks, Lies and Videotape" opens this week and will lampoon last fall's trial in which the "Girl, Interrupted" star, 31, was convicted of taking $6,000 worth of merchandise from the posh Beverly Hills department store Saks Fifth Avenue, the Associated Press reports.

"We're inspired by the old Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland 'Hey, let's put on a show,' kind of spirit," said literature, film and drama teacher Larry Zeiger, who plays piano for the show and stars as CNN interviewer Larry King.

The musical, which was put together over the past school year by several dozen students and directed by Zeiger (a 29-year-vet of Point Loma High), follows a missile-factory employee and tango dancer who goes to Rodeo Drive and meets her idol, Ryder, at Saks. The department store donated shopping bags for the set, says AP.

As for the subject of the show, Ryder was reportedly invited to see a performance but she has yet to respond. Her publicist, Mara Buxbaum, tells AP that she doesn't know whether Ryder ever saw the invitation.

In early April, Ryder was in court for a progress report on her sentence to three years' probation. Superior Court Judge Elden Fox praised the actress for completing her 480 hours community service ahead of schedule, but he argued with her lawyer, Mark Geragos, over whether she could dispose of the $6,000 in lifted merchandise by holding a charity auction.
