CHARGED: Mike Tyson, 36, was charged with misdemeanor assault following a New York street brawl, reports AP. According to police, two men were with a woman when the fight broke out about 5:30 a.m. Saturday. One of the men used a metal pole from a hotel lobby against Tyson, whose right hand was bandaged when he left the police station. One of the men and the woman were treated for minor injuries, police said. The former heavyweight boxing champ is due in court June 24.

DIED: Sharp-tongued screenwriter George Axelrod ("The Seven Year Itch," "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "The Manchurian Candidate"), 81, died in his sleep of heart failure on Saturday at his Los Angeles home, his daughter tells The New York Times. A successful Broadway playwright, Axelrod moved out west in the '50s after he didn't like how his "Itch," starring Marilyn Monroe, turned out on screen.
ENGAGED: Tennessee Titan running back Eddie George is engaged to marry Tamara Johnson, also know as Taj, a member of the R&B group Sisters With Voices, Titans spokesman Robbie Bohren confirms to AP. The couple, who met five years ago at a fund-raiser, will tie the knot next June. She divides her time between Nashville and Los Angeles. George, who will begin his eighth NFL season this year, is a four-time Pro Bowl player and the 1995 Heisman Trophy winner.
