Justin, Christina Cancel N.J. Concert
Fans of Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake walked away from their sold-out Atlantic City concert disappointed Saturday night, as the show was canceled after sound and lighting equipment came crashing to the ground during setup, reports the Associated Press.
About 30 people successfully cleared out of the 75-year-old landmark Boardwalk Hall when a large steel rigging structure used to raise the gear buckled and collapsed, members of the backstage crew tell AP.
Three stagehands were slightly injured and two were treated for cuts and bruises, said officials. Neither Aguilera nor Timberlake, both 22, were on the premises at the time of the accident, which is being investigated by federal, state and local officials, reports AP.
Although the concert is expected to be rescheduled, no new date has been announced, and the stars are due Monday night to appear at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y., Newsday reports.
In Atlantic City, a city fire department crew remained in Boardwalk Hall after the collapse in case some potentially volatile pyrotechnic equipment ignited.
But the only thing to catch heat were the promoters of the concert, given the disappointment of fans.
"I'm so sad," Michelle Ackerman, 14, of Fairfax, Va., told AP. She had traveled to the New Jersey seaside resort with her mother and a friend for the concert.
