Reese 'Blonde' Vehicle Broadway Bound?
Producer Hal Luftig, whose shows include "Millie," the Billy Joel-Twyla Tharp dance-a-thon "Movin' Out" and a revival of "Annie Get Your Gun," will bring "Blonde" to the boards, reports the New York Observer.
Amanda Brown, who wrote the novel on which the 2001 "Legally Blonde" movie was based (this summer saw a sequel, "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde"), tells the paper: "The opening scene of the first movie, where they're in the sorority house with streamers? It totally looks like a Broadway musical."
Brown says she signed Luftig's option papers last week. She also says, "I could also see the show as a campy thing at the MGM in Vegas -- rompy and fun and over the top." Like, yeah.
Among Luftig's business partners in the venture, says the Observer, are Fox Theatricals, the Oxygen Network and MGM Onstage.
Without mentioning casting or even writers, Luftig tells the paper he hopes to hold a first reading of the "Blonde" book and score "within a year, and have it really on its feet a year after that."
