Celebrity Sightings (and Bitings!)
It's been hot in L.A., but the stars continue to take advantage of the last days of summer, playing, shopping -- and eating. That's the word from PEOPLE's Los Angeles correspondents, who offer up a week's worth of sightings in Tinseltown:
ON THE TOWN
Before jetting off to New York to take in some tennis (read: watch pal Jennifer Capriati play) at the U.S. Open, "Friends" star Matthew Perry was dining with two very pretty blonde women at Orso, the hot Italian eatery in Beverly Hills. While the women were talking about their favorite songs, Perry was exercising some very Chandler-esque charm, doing tricks with the salt and pepper shakers and making his guests laugh.
In what looked like a celebration for his new film "Wonderland," Val Kilmer was sharing drinks with a crowd that included more than a dozen fawning admirers in the garden at the Chateau Marmont. ... Meanwhile, Amy Smart, costar of Project Greenlight's "The Battle of Shaker Heights," was strolling down Main Street in Santa Monica on Aug. 27 with a girlfriend when she encountered a group of young male fans posing for a birthday photo in front of The Galley Restaurant. "Hey, Amy, jump in the picture," one shouted to her. Without missing a beat, the blonde actress did just that.
Is it the Italian food, the Dodd Mitchell-designed interior or the celebrities that have made Dolce Hollywood's hottest nightspot? Probably all three. Before leaving for New York to do the MTV Video Music Awards, Britney Spears was spotted among a group of six on the patio. Several days later, we saw rocker Prince chowing down with a group of music executives.
While his "That '70s Show" castmate Ashton Kutcher is an investor in Dolce, Topher Grace was roughing it -- at least when we spotted him waiting for a table at 3 a.m. outside Swingers, a West Hollywood coffee shop that's also a fave spot for Amanda Peet and her friend Sara Paulson.
Queen Latifah left brunch at Toast, on 3rd Street, singing as she and her friends climbed into their SUV. Her voice won admiration from those in the restaurant, including the hostess, who said, "You have a great voice."
Daryl Hannah purchased a chocolate brown tube top at trendy Lotta on Melrose. During the same visit, she borrowed a green satin minidress and a brown jersey dress and ended up wearing the brown dress over jeans to a screening the following night. She apparently liked how she looked -- her assistant came back on Aug. 28 to borrow clothes for Hannah to wear to the Toronto Film Festival.
