Evan Handler Leads Celeb Marrying Spree
The calendar may say October, but it sure seems like June with the recent rash of celebrity weddings. Among those taking new spouses are "Sex and the City" actor Evan Handler, Annabeth Gish of "The West Wing" and "Gandhi" Oscar winner Ben Kingsley.
This week's new issue of PEOPLE has plenty of details on the ceremonies.
For starters, when Handler, 42, and Italian-born medical researcher Elisa Atti, 33, sought a quiet setting for their wedding, they chose Ouest, a favorite neighborhood restaurant on Manhattan's Upper West Side. There, 100 guests filed in to grab a morning cocktail hour and watch the ceremony, which took place on an overhead balcony (with an interpreter, who translated for Atti's Italian relatives).
Says Todd McMullen, Ouest's general manager: "Elisa was giggling and just looked so happy." Because of the Armani-clad couple's different religious backgrounds -- he is Jewish, she is Catholic -- the wedding was secular, with no chuppah, crucifix or attendants.
"It was very relaxed," says McMullen. "Just a party to celebrate the two of them coming together."
Marrying on the Pacific coast was Krav Maga instructor Wade Allen, 31, and actress Annabeth Gish, who felt as if she were floating on air. Well, almost. "The wedding started just as the wind was active," says Gish, 32. "My veil was vertical at one point."
Engaged since December, the couple invited 100 guests -- and their golden retriever Lola, who served as flower girl -- to the Sea Ranch Lodge, three hours north of San Francisco.
Next up: a weeklong honeymoon. "We're going to Hawaii, but I don't know where. Wade planned it all," Gish says. "He's a good man."
As for Kingsley, 59, he recently wed German model Alexandra Christmann, 28, in a secret ceremony. The couple met in January. This is the third marriage for Kingsley.
Finally, actors Danny Nucci ("Mafia Doctor"), 35, and Paula Marshall, 39, wed at an L.A. restaurant on Oct. 12. It's the second marriage for both. The couple met while filming 1997's "That Old Feeling" and later costarred on the TV show "Snoops."
