Former Beatle Paul McCartney has reason to open two bottles of champagne on Friday.
The first is to celebrate being a father again at age 61, after his second wife, Heather Mills, 35, gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Beatrice Milly McCartney, on Tuesday.
And the second is that he is Britain's No. 1 richest pop star, with his earnings -- supercharged by his last world tour, which ended in his hometown of Liverpool in June -- now topping $68 million a year, according to a list compiled by London's Sunday Times newspaper.
"Maybe a baby will make him feel young and stay in touch with modern trends in his dotage," list compiler Philip Beresford tells Reuters. "He has suddenly taken up touring and found it is another avenue to make huge amounts of money. He has got on the Rolling Stones' bandwagon."
The Top 10 rich list reads like the Rock Hall of Fame. It includes Sting, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Phil Collins, and Rolling Stones Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
Madonna was the top woman, tying for sixth place with Elton John with about $24 million.
"These old rockers just keep going and going. Maybe they will still be performing on their (walkers)," Beresford said.
Robbie Williams, whose 2003 tour and latest record deal earned him $44 million, took third place and was the only male pop star under the age of 50 in the top 15 music earners.
