Wynonna Charged with DUI in Nashville

Country singer Wynonna Judd was charged with driving under the influence early Thursday after a Nashville police officer stopped her speeding Land Rover, reports the Associated Press.

According to the arrest report, Judd, 39, allegedly was going 47 mph in a 30 mph zone, and when stopped she smelled of alcohol, had watery eyes and dilated pupils and could not recall the number of drinks she had consumed.

The officer said Judd consented to a breath test and registered a blood alcohol level of 0.175 percent, more than double the 0.08 legal limit.

The singer posted the standard $500 bond for a first offense and was released. (Meanwhile, TV reports in the country music capital put her police booking photo on display.)

In Tennessee, drunk-driving is a misdemeanor that carries a fine, community service or up to 48 hours in jail.

The incident comes just a few months after Judd's first album in three years, "What the World Needs Now is Love," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard country music chart.

She began her career as half of the mother-daughter act the Judds, with Naomi. Her younger sister, Ashley Judd, is now starring in a Broadway revival of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
