Rocker-actress Courtney Love left two judges hopping mad Wednesday when she failed to show up for a couple of court appearances in Los Angeles.
Love faces two sets of charges stemming from an Oct. 2 incident when she was arrested at the Beverly Hills home of a boyfriend. Love was breaking windows at the man's house when she was arrested, Reuters reports.
Love, 39, was scheduled to appear in Beverly Hills Superior Court to face charges for felony drug possession, the most serious of the charges. Following her arrest in October, Love was freed on $2,500 bail and then taken to a hospital for an undisclosed medical emergency -- which then resulted in charges of illegal possession of the prescription painkillers oxycodone and hydrocodone.
William Genego, Love's attorney, told Judge Elden Fox that Love could not attend the hearing due to "security concerns," reports Reuters. Genego did not elaborate on what those concerns were.
Judge Fox issued a warrant for Love's arrest in the case, but agreed to hold it until Tuesday when Love is scheduled to return to court. A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles district attorney's office said Love is expected to plead guilty and enter a drug rehab program. Upon successful completion of the program, the conviction will be removed from Love's record. If she does not turn up for the hearing, Love could be arrested.
The problem-plagued star also was due in a Los Angeles court on a misdemeanor charge resulting from the same Oct. 2 arrest. She was charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance. Love did not show for that hearing, either.
Superior Court Judge Patricia M. Schnegg admonished Love's attorney Genego for his client's absence. "(This is) not a complicated case," the judge reportedly said. "I have never seen your client in court at all." However, Judge Schnegg agreed to postpone the trial until Feb. 23.
The charges have cost the Golden Globe-winning Love a great deal. Following the arrest, she lost custody of Frances Bean Cobain, her 11-year-old daughter with late husband Kurt Cobain. Love's new album, "America's Sweetheart," was released Tuesday.
