Paris Hilton Sues over Sex Tape
Her debut as a reality TV star on FOX's "The Simple Life" indicated that hotel heiress Paris Hilton wanted to "keep it real" -- but, as a new lawsuit indicates, just not too real.
The 22-year-old socialite turned actress has filed a $30 million lawsuit against Kahatani Ltd., a Panama-based Internet company, claiming the site has illegally distributed her infamous amateur sex tape with ex-boyfriend Rick Salomon. The suit charges Kahatani with violation of privacy, illegal business practices and infliction of emotional distress, reports Reuters.
According to Hilton's suit, "the videotape (was meant) only for personal use and never intended or consented that it be shown to anyone else or distributed to the public."
The video, shot several years ago when Hilton was 19 years old, made its way onto the Web prior to her debut on "The Simple Life." Its surfacing led to a series of lawsuits, including one filed by Salomon against Hilton's family after he claimed the Hiltons slandered him by suggesting Paris was a victim and unwilling participant in the video.
Hilton's lawsuit against Kahatani is seeking $15 million in actual damages and $15 in punitive damages, according to Reuters.
