Any chance of reconciliation between Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman will likely be put to rest when the new issue of Details magazine hits newsstands.
"In all likelihood we'll probably get a divorce," Hawke tells Details editor-in-chief Daniel Peres, according to previews published in The Washington Post and Time magazine.
Following what the actor describes as the "most agonizing period of my life," Hawke says he has shed 15 lbs. because of anxiety since his very public separation from Thurman.
But Hawke, 33, denies that a reported affair with 22-year-old model Jen Perzow was what ended his relationship with Thurman after five years and two children. Calling the tabloid reports "annoying," the "Training Day" star says, "if our problems were that simple, we'd still be together.
"I have this burning desire to walk up to everybody on the street and say, 'Hey, by the way, that's not true.' But I've been feeling like Hester Prynne from 'The Scarlet Letter.'"
Hawke, however, doesn't help his case with other comments he makes to the magazine, including his view on monogamy and politicians.
"You're much more likely to find great leadership coming from a man who likes to have sex with a lot of women than one who's monogamous," he says, describing the various leadership qualities of President Bush and Bill Clinton.
Meanwhile, the actor-director-writer concedes, "I'm a wreck. I feel like, so, if my forties are where people say it's really good, then I'm probably going to be suicidal."
Hawke is preparing to start work on a remake of the 1976 John Carpenter film "Assault on Precinct 13" with Laurence Fishburne. Thurman, 33, recently appeared in "Paycheck" and stars in the second volume of Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill," due out later this year.
