Talk about the right prescription: Anthony Geary and Maurice Benard, both from best-soap nominee "General Hospital," were among those in the running for the Daytime Emmy Awards, announced Thursday morning.
Other big nominees included Ellen DeGeneres for her hit daytime talk show, as well as Regis and Kelly and -- you guessed it -- Martha Stewart, whose "Martha Stewart Living" is up for six awards, the Associated Press reports.
"The Young and Restless," meanwhile, topped all comers with 16 nominations, followed by 14 for "All My Children" and "As the World Turns"; 12 for "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," "General Hospital" and "Guiding Light"; 11 for "Sesame Street" and "The View"; 10 for "One Life to Live"; seven for "Between the Lions" and "Passions"; and six for "Live with Regis and Kelly," "Martha Stewart Living" and "The Wayne Brady Show."
Joining Geary and Benard in the race for best soap actor are Roger Howarth from "As the World Turns," Grant Aleksander for "Guiding Light," Thorsten Kaye for "Port Charles" and Eric Braeden from "The Young and the Restless."
Geary and Benard's "Hospital" costars, Nancy Lee Grahn and Tamara Braun, each received nominations for best actress, as did Maura West of "As the World Turns," Kim Zimmer of "Guiding Light" and Michelle Stafford of "The Young and the Restless."
Also in the running as best daytime drama: "As the World Turns," "The Bold and the Beautiful," "Guiding Light" and "The Young and the Restless."
This year's Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to 10 veteran actors who have devoted a major portion of their careers to daytime drama: Rachel Ames, John Clarke, Jeanne Cooper, Eileen Fulton, Don Hastings, Anna Lee, Ray MacDonnell, Frances Reid, Helen Wagner and Ruth Warrick.
The 31st annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be held May 21 at New York's Radio City Music Hall and telecast on NBC.
