R. Kelly Porn Charges Dropped in Florida
Prosecutors in the Sunshine State have dropped all child pornography charges against R. Kelly after a judge ruled that photos allegedly showing the "Feelin' on Yo Booty" singer having sex with an underage girl were illegally seized, reports the Associated Press.
Last week, Kelly won a partial legal victory when Florida Circuit Judge Dennis Maloney agreed with the singer's defense that sheriff's detectives in Polk County lacked evidence to justify a search of his home when they sought a warrant in June 2002 -- meaning that the photos could not have been used as evidence.
The photos were said to have been inside a digital camera that was wrapped in a towel inside a duffel bag.
But this new decision, announced Wednesday, doesn't entirely clear Kelly, 36 (real name: Robert Sylvester Kelly), of the trouble he's in. He still faces 14 counts of child pornography in his home state of Illinois
"As I've said before, I am confident that when all the facts come out, people will see that I'm no criminal," Kelly said in a statement to the AP.
In Chicago, Kelly -- who has pleaded not guilty to all charges -- faces 14 counts of child pornography, stemming from a videotape allegedly showing him having sex with an underage girl. Last month, seven of the original 21 child pornography charges in Chicago were dismissed.
Kelly's Chicago-based attorney, Ed Genson, did not immediately return a phone message from AP seeking comment on the Florida ruling.
