50 on Sept. 7
There's no pretense about the Pretenders' frontwoman. Still 118 lbs. (and on the verge of turning 50), Hynde starts the morning with tea and yoga. Her diet is purely vegan, and her outlook is relaxed. "I have more time to get into things like painting. And I'm discovering classical music for the first time, something I never heard all my life and which I don't think I could appreciate before," she says. This despite that the mother of two teens -- Natalie, 18, and Yasmin, 16 -- will be back on tour this fall with the Pretenders and UB40. "I was in a limo leaving a gig one time a long time ago and I leaned forward and said to the driver 'Really, who's going to want to see a 40-year-old woman on stage with a guitar?' And then I sat back and looked out of the window and thought, 'Hmm, I would.' " And a 50-year-old? Why not?
