POWER COUPLE
Though Gwyneth Paltrow was the emcee at the Music Has Power Awards gala this week, she didn't introduce the evening's surprise performer – her own boyfriend, Coldplay's Chris Martin. Martin, whose name was not on the program, suddenly appeared from the wings toward the end of the evening, dashing onto the stage where former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart was finishing his acceptance speech. Martin called out to the crowd, "I'll let Mickey Hart introduce me." A startled Hart pretended not to recognize Martin at first. After some banter, Martin said, "I'll introduce myself." With that, he sat at the piano, took a moment to compose himself and declared, "My name is Elton John." Paltrow and Martin upstaged this surprise performance with the news that they are expecting their first child together next summer.
HASSELHOFF'S HARLEY HEADS HOME
Nine months after a motorcycle mishap that left actor David Hasselhoff and wife Pamela Bach with a collection of broken bones, the 51-year-old former Baywatch star says he has found a new use for his banged-up Harley. "I am gonna make a table out of it ... a rock and roll Hard Rock Cafe-style table," he said at the L.A. premiere of The Last Samurai. Hasselhoff, who will return to Europe this month to promote his latest pop music CD, says he plans to continue riding. "I would just never take my wife or kids again."
