Ashley Olsen is flying solo again, having broken up with her boyfriend of three years, 20-year-old Columbia University quarterback Matt Kaplan, a rep for the Olsens tells PEOPLE.com.
The separation was "amicable," they "parted on good terms" and "they wish each other the best," said spokesman Michael Pagnotta, adding that no third party was involved but it was difficult maintaining a long-distance relationship.
In last week's cover story on Ashley and twin sister Mary-Kate – whose new movie New York Minute opens Friday – PEOPLE called the love lives of the girls, who soon turn 18, "blossoming."
Besides the Ashley-Matt alliance, Mary-Kate recently began dating David Katzenberg, 21, a Boston University student and the son of DreamWorks studio cofounder Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Mary-Kate and David are said to be carrying on just fine.
Yet, as the magazine reported last week, with the sisters attending a private school in their hometown of Los Angeles and their boyfriends on the other side of the country, "it's been hard," Ashley told PEOPLE. "A long-distance relationship is tough, no matter what."
