Former Bachelor Andrew Firestone crashed during a time trial for the Cannonball One Lap of America racing event, emerging unharmed. "He crashed today," said Bridgestone/Firestone rep Mark Robinson, "but he's okay. The car sustained a lot of damage in the front but as Andrew says, 'Only my ego is bruised.'"

Firestone and his brother, Adam, are both involved in the event, in which competitors drive street-legal cars 5,600 miles on public roads across the United States, stopping at seven race tracks for time trials. Andrew, who is driving a 2004 Subaru WRX STi, was into the final lap around the four-mile Road America track in Wisconsin when the back of the car slipped as he slowed to make a 90-degree left-hand turn going downhill. Firestone's car skidded across the track, crashing head-on into a concrete barrier. Because Firestone was slowing into the turn, he was only going about 50-60 miles per hour.

Andrew is "shaken up a little bit," Robinson said, "but upset that the car was damaged. He and his brother were in the top 20 the whole time during the race. The final run is in South Bend, Ind., tomorrow and they hope to have the car repaired at the nearest dealership, probably in Chicago."

Earlier in the day, Adam Firestone had run his time trial without incident. The brothers are great-grandsons of Firestone Tire and Rubber Company founder Harvey Firestone, and both now work for their family's Firestone Vineyard wine company.
