WEEK AHEAD: Keanu Scores Stunt Honors
Who's giving the Matrix star an award for his action moves? Find out in PEOPLE's list of the big events to watch for in the coming week:
SATURDAY, MAY 15: You'll have to consult with your friendly ticket broker (ahem, scalper) or be a lucky radio winner if you want tickets to the sold-out Wango Tango concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. The star-studded event, hosted by American Idol emcee Ryan Seacrest and sponsored by L.A. radio station KIIS-FM, will feature Janet Jackson, Big Boi from OutKast, Jessica Simpson, The Blackeyed Peas, Clay Aiken, N.E.R.D., Enrique Iglesias, Maroon 5 and Lenny Kravitz. Get ready to bake in the California sun.
SUNDAY, MAY 16: Keanu Reeves has battled his way through another dimension in The Matrix films, rescued a busload of people from a madman in Speed and surfed and brawled as an undercover FBI agent in Point Break. Now, he's being applauded for his tough-guy efforts with an honorary trophy for best action movie star at the World Stunt Awards, honoring Hollywood's stunt men and women. Carmen Electra and Dennis Hopper (not exactly the first names you'd think of when it comes to stunt work) host the event, which will be taped at Paramount Studio and will air on Spike TV on May 26.
While Keanu is getting high-fived, TV fans will be saying goodbye to ABC's The Practice, which is shuttering its office after an eight-year run. The Emmy-winning legal drama has had its share of ups and downs – like almost getting cancelled and booting Dylan McDermott from its cast in 2003 – but it's not quite completely over for the David E. Kelley series. It'll spin off into a more lighthearted legal show featuring James Spader and recurring guest stars Rhona Mitra and William Shatner (yes, Capt. Kirk is returning to primetime full-time). And there's also talk that Camryn Manheim will star in a sitcom reprising her tough-talking Practice character.
MONDAY, MAY 17: Forget trying to find the best pop singer – American Idol can handle that. The WB has a better idea: search for the worst singer ever. The WB Superstar USA is a seven-episode series featuring a devious contest in which good singers are eliminated while only ear-splittingly bad vocalists are left to compete. The contestants aren't in on the joke, but the judges – singer Vitamin-C, rapper Tone Loc and Superstar producer Chris Briggs – are. Former MTV veejay Brian McFayden plays the Seacrest role. Yet for a William Hung soundalike, there's a light at the end of the humiliating tunnel: a record deal and a $100,000 cash prize.
FRIDAY, MAY 21: It may be Ellen DeGeneres's big day: The talk show host is up for 12 awards (a record for a talk show in its first year) at the 31st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. The show, honoring the year's best daytime TV programs and performers, will be hosted by "Las Vegas"]'s Vanessa Marcil (a General Hospital alum) and will be broadcast live from New York's Radio City Music Hall on NBC. Ellen will be duking it out with Dr. Phil, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, The View mavens and Wayne Brady for best talk-show host honors. And embattled domestic doyenne Martha Stewart is up for six awards for her show.
