Spector Arrested After Fight with Driver
According to police, officers in Alhambra, Calif., responded to a 911 call from Spector's home at about 10:15 a.m. and were greeted by Spector, 63, and his chauffeur, Tobie Wheeler, 46. It was then determined that the two men had been involved in a "physical altercation ... over their business relationship."
Police told Reuters that no weapons appeared to be involved, but both Spector and Wheeler asked that the other be arrested.
"We don't know exactly what prompted the assaults," Alhambra Police Lt. Elliot Kase told CNN. "It's basically our understanding they were having a falling out over their business together – which was coming to an end."
Kase went on to say: "Mr. Spector has been released on his own recognizance and given a citation with a court date of June 14. Mr. Wheeler's release is still in process, pending confirmation of his identify through fingerprints."
Members of the Alhambra Fire Department reportedly treated both men for minor injuries. Spector claimed to suffer a minor injury to his right hand, while Wheeler said his jaw had been injured.
Spector, who is currently free on bail, is facing a murder charge in the death of B-movie actress Lana Clarkson, 40, who was found shot to death in February 2003 in the foyer of his suburban Los Angeles house. He claims her death was a suicide.
