Hugh Jackman's First Time

We asked Van Helsing star Hugh Jackman – who is nominated for a Tony for his acclaimed Broadway turn in The Boy from Oz – about his first time ... seeing a musical, that is. "I think it was Cats," he told us. "I loved it. I was 11 when my father took me and I thought it was great – these cats jumping out behind me. It also scared the hell out of me." Yeah, us too. But wait, there's more: "My father also took me to La Cage aux Folles, which kind of surprised me because my father was a religious man," Jackman said. "So we get there and my brother and I are watching and (I) say, 'I think Dad's made a mistake.' "

Old Friends
Remember the old days, when Macaulay Culkin was a child star, and he hung out with the likes of, well, Michael Jackson? How times have changed. "I have not talked to him in about six to eight months. I'm kind of taking a step back from the situation – it's a bit of a circus," Culkin told us at the L.A. premiere of his upcoming movie Saved! "I'm just trying to be cool about the whole thing. I actually haven't seen him in going on two years now. I'm supportive of him from afar, but it's unfortunate (for) everyone involved." Can't argue with that.

Fast Takes
Joan of Arcadia's Amber Tamblyn celebrated her 21st birthday at the Beyond Baroque poetry theater in Venice, Calif., recently. Among the 75 guests were Arcadia castmate Jason Ritter and Las Vegas star Vanessa Marcil, as well as actresses America Ferrera and Blake Lively, both of whom are working with Tamblyn on the feature film Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. ... After getting the boot from The Bachelor's Jesse Palmer in February, French-Canadian model and makeup artist Anne-Catherine Labbe rekindled a romance with a former boyfriend in Quebec City, and the two are now engaged. ... John Cusack was inspired by a recent six-day visit to refugee camps, hospitals and schools in West Africa with the American Refugee Committee. The victims "lost their homes, members of their families, all of their possessions, and yet somehow, with the help of organizations like ARC, they recover," he said.

Cannes Do
This year's Cannes Film Festival wasn't the first Jack Black attended – he went 12 years ago when he had a minor role in 1992's Bob Roberts. "I wasn't invited, but I came anyway," said Black, who was very much invited this year as part of the star-studded cast of the animated flick Shark Tale. "And I had fun then even though I couldn't get into any other movies. It's very difficult to get tickets." So, how did he like the film fest this time around? "It's pretty creamy," he said. "I find this to be creamy deluxe. Tell your readers it's creamy deluxe." And so we have.
