Peterson Trial: What Laci Was Wearing

Prosecutor Rick Distaso began the first full day of testimony in Scott Peterson's double-murder trial on Thursday by putting five witnesses on the stand -- four of whom had seen Laci Peterson on Dec. 23, 2002, the day before she went missing, reports PEOPLE.
The 12 jurors (six men and six women) and six alternates took notes and focused on the testimony that mostly centered on what Laci was wearing: black pants and a white top, which matched the description Scott Peterson gave to police after her disappearance.
When Laci's body was discovered in San Francisco Bay in April 2003, she was wearing khaki-colored maternity pants.
Fred Eachus, the manager of a Trader Joe's store in Modesto, had a computerized receipt for Laci's purchases at 10:06 a.m. on Dec. 23 ($98.19 on such holiday items as Grand Marnier, stuffed salmon filet, pepperoni sticks, heavy cream, apple strudel and profiteroles).
Two witnesses from the Sweet Serenity Day Spa, Tina Reiswig and Michelle Buer, testified that Laci went in that afternoon for a treatment, but she was not her usual self and she complained of being tired as she left the shop. Prosecutors are trying to prove that Laci was tired at this point in her pregnancy and, therefore, was not walking her dog on the morning of Dec. 24.
Another witness, spa owner Michelle Buer, also said that Laci, a regular customer at the salon, was tired but happy from her pregnancy. Buer wasn't sure if Laci was wearing black capris or a black skirt, and she said the white shirt was a button shirt with a collar.
"I remember commenting how cute she was," Buer said. "She looked like a parochial student with her black Mary Janes."
Prosecutors allege Peterson killed his eight-months-pregnant wife Laci, 27, in their Modesto home because he was having an affair with mistress Amber Frey, then drove Laci's body nearly 100 miles to San Francisco Bay and dumped it from his small boat. He has pleaded not guilty.
