Britney Blows Out Knee, Undergoes Surgery
Britney Spears is taking an unintended break from the dance floor: On Wednesday in New York, the pop princess underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after injuring herself during a late Tuesday-night video shoot in the borough of Queens, according to her Jive Records label.
Spears, 22, had just completed a scene with rap star Snoop Dogg for a video of her latest single, "Outrageous," and was doing choreography under the L Train line on Roosevelt Avenue when her left knee gave out, the label said in a statement.
"She obviously took a wrong step and blew out her knee," a spokeswoman tells Reuters. "It was an old dance injury." In March, Spears hurt her knee while performing in Illinois, forcing her to cancel some concert dates.
This new mishap took place at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Spears was taken immediately to an undisclosed local hospital, where doctors performed an MRI scan and found floating cartilage in her knee, Jive said.
The spokeswoman said there was no immediate word on the outcome of the surgery or whether the injury will affect the star's upcoming schedule.
On June 22, Spears is scheduled to begin her North American tour in Hartford, Conn., her Web site reports.
