WEEK IN REVIEW: Britney Busts Her Knee
BAD BREAK: Britney Spears underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Wednesday in New York after injuring herself during a late Tuesday-night video shoot, said her Jive Records label. Spears, 22, had just completed a scene with rap star Snoop Dogg for a video of her latest single, "Outrageous." "She obviously took a wrong step and blew out her knee," a spokeswoman told Reuters, calling it "an old dance injury." There was no immediate word on the outcome of the surgery or whether the injury will affect the star's upcoming schedule.
LeBLANC SPACE: Despite strong word of mouth about the premiere episode of the Friends spinoff Joey, the new NBC sitcom is undergoing some major fixes prior to its debut this fall. Gone will be actress Ashley Scott, who played the Matt LeBlanc character's sexy new neighbor in Los Angeles, according to the Hollywood Reporter. No replacement has been announced, as series creators Shana Goldberg-Meehan and Scott Silveri reportedly tweak the concept for the character and recast it.
NICOLE'S DIGS: The Stepford Wives star Nicole Kidman is stepping into palatial new digs – as a renter. Despite having a new $8 million loft in Greenwich Village that she has yet to occupy (the place reportedly is not yet finished), she'll be taking up luxurious space in a more than 4,000-sq.-ft. three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom residence in nearby SoHo, the New York Observer reported. Her monthly rent: $35,000. The new place reportedly features 12-ft. ceilings and an active fireplace.
LOVE CHARGE: Courtney Love was charged on Tuesday with felony assault with a deadly weapon, stemming from an April 25 incident at the Los Angeles home of Love's ex-boyfriend and manager, Jim Barber. The former Hole singer, 39, is accused of attacking a female friend of Barber's with a bottle and metal flashlight. She has been charged in three other cases, including two that occurred hours apart in October.
MEAN DAD: Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan's father, Michael Lohan, was called "a menace to society, " his brother-in-law Matt Sullivan told reporters outside New York's Nassau County Courthouse Tuesday. Lohan, 44, was arrested by U.S. marshals last week after purportedly avoiding arrest for an alleged assault on Sullivan at a May 23 First Communion party in the Lohan family home in Merrick, Long Island. Lohan returned to court Wednesday on separate charges of assault and harassment for allegedly beating up a city sanitation worker on Dec. 8, 2003.
