Legal obligations are taking precedence over the demands of fans, at least as far as Courtney Love's summer tour is concerned.

The embattled rocker, 30, whose concert slate was due to begin this week, will be "slightly delayed," say her reps, while MTV News reports that nearly half of the former Hole singer's concert dates aren't just delayed – they're canceled.

"Due to legal reasons, not necessarily the latest charge, her lawyers have advised her to delay the tour," said Love spokeswoman Jill Fritzo.

By MTV's count, 10 out of 21 Love-Ins are marked "canceled" on Ticketmaster's Web site. Another gig, part of New York's Central Park Summerstage series, is also designated "canceled" on the Summerstage site.

Fritzo, however, insists performances are being rescheduled, adding: "We are working on new dates now."

On Friday, Love surrendered to Los Angeles police on charges of assaulting a woman at the home of her former manager and ex-boyfriend, Jim Barber.

Authorities said Love was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon. She was later released on $55,000 bail and has a court date scheduled for July 9. (If convicted, she could face up to four years in prison.)

Love's lawyer, Michael Rosenstein, told reporters that his client plans to plead not guilty.

Love already is facing trial for possession of prescription drugs following her arrest last October for creating a disturbance outside Barber's home. (She has agreed to enter a drug rehab program to avoid jail time for that charge.)

She's also due to stand trial on charges that she hit a fan with a microphone during a late-night Manhattan club appearance in March.

The singer faces two counts of assault and reckless endangerment and could spend up to a year in jail if convicted of the charges. The court date in that case is set for June 28.
