Birthday Prince
Speaking of men about town ... Prince William celebrated his 22nd birthday Monday among both family and friends. After spending the day quietly at Highgrove House, near Tetbury, Gloucestershire (his family home, located 110 miles west of London), he headed out to cheer England with some mates at a crucial soccer match. The Prince got the result he was hoping for: a 4-2 victory for David Beckham's England over Croatia, qualifying the team for the quarter finals of the European tournament in Portugal. William and his brother, Prince Harry, 19, have been keeping in touch about the tournament by mobile phone while Harry is in Botswana, Africa. "They are both really into the football and couldn't wait for the tournament to start," a palace source tells us.
Sunday, Smoky Sunday
Call it the forgettable fire ... U2 frontman and human rights crusader Bono has publicly apologized for lighting up in a Dublin hotel, ignoring an Irish smoking ban in workplaces (including pubs, restaurants and hotels) that came into effect in March. The faux pas occurred while Bono was hanging out with members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Clarence (which the singer and U2 guitarist Dave "The Edge" Evans have owned since 1992). "It was the wee small hours. I was in the company of people from out of town who didn't know about the ban and for a moment nor did I," Bono, 44, said of the incident, according to the U.K.'s Independent newspaper. "I was quickly reminded by the staff and a few friends. I apologized then and I apologize now."
