A staff recommendation by the Federal Communications Commission suggests that CBS pay the maximum indecency penalty – $27,500 – for each of its 20 company-owned stations that aired the incident.
The incident, as you may recall, occurred at the end of the Super Bowl's MTV-produced halftime show, during a duet between Jackson and Justin Timberlake. Timberlake reached across and ripped off a break-away piece of Jackson's black leather top, revealing her breast.
The event – which drew a TV audience of some 90 million – caused an uproar, and a rash of FCC indecency enforcement actions.
Meanwhile, in other FCC news, shock jock Howard Stern on Wednesday announced that his morning radio show is coming to nine cities, including many of the markets where he was dropped by radio giant Clear Channel. Stern will be back on the air in cities such as Orlando and San Diego, and he has been added in cities such as Tampa, Fla., and Austin, Texas.
