Ja Rule Arrested but Pot Charge Dropped
The Ja Rule bust came in the wee hours of the morning, when the rapper and The Fast and the Furious actor (real name Jeffrey Atkins) was pulled over for an unsignaled lane change while driving his 2001 Mercedes-Benz in Greenwich Village, a police spokesman told the Associated Press.
Then, in the early afternoon, Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk dancer Glover was stopped in his 1997 BMW, the officer told the AP.
Both men had small amounts of marijuana on them, the police said, but the pot charge against New Jersey resident Ja Rule, 28, was dropped when he pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license and paid $550 in fines and fees, the AP notes. He is scheduled to appear in criminal court next week, though, in Queens to face an 8-year-old open warrant for resisting arrest.
Glover, 30, who appeared before the same judge, was released on his own recognizance and given an Aug. 18 court date. Back in 1996, he had been accused of carrying three small bags of marijuana, but the case was dismissed after the Broadway star pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and completed 50 hours of community service, the AP reports.
