The Arkansas farm family that hosted Paris Hilton and her
friend Nicole Richie for the first season of The Simple Life are wincing after hearing some remarks made by the hotel heiress.
Mother Janet Leding points to one message in particular that left her puzzled – and hurt. When Entertainment Weekly magazine asked Hilton last month if
she kept in touch with the Ledings, she replied, "I changed my number."
"She made us sound like we were trying to stalk
her," Leding told the Associated Press. "Who's been calling her? We talked to them a couple of times
right after they left. Nicole – I talked to her about three times. We weren't
trying to call them all the time. We don't care one way or other."
But the Ledings said they can't speak for the boys of Altus, some of whom
became more than friendly with Hilton and Richie.
Albert and Janet Leding of Altus (pop. 817) took the two in while FOX TV
crews filmed the glamorous pair cleaning chicken coops and examining cows. But the Ledings tell the AP that they have received fat stacks of fan mail and dozens of friendly phone calls since the first season aired.
On the subject of friendliness, the New York Post and New York's Daily News both report that Hilton, 22, and boyfriend Nick Carter, 24, set off fireworks
of their own at a Hamptons Fourth of July party thrown by Jay-Z when they argued
The sparks reportedly didn't end there, however. The News goes on to say that
the two were still at one another on Monday at 2 a.m. following
Sean "P. Diddy" Combs's White Party, though Hilton and Carter were apparently back to
billing and cooing for the sake of photographers.
