DENIED: John Kay of the rock group Steppenwolf says Paris Hilton approached him about using the band's 1968 anthem "Born to Be Wild" on her FOX TV show The Simple Life – and that he refused her idea outright. "There are certain things even a rock and roller will not stoop to, and this is one of them," Kay, 60, tells the Toronto Star. Not that Steppenwolf is anti-Hollywood. The band's songs, including "Born to Be Wild" appeared on the soundtrack of the classic 1969 road trip film Easy Rider.
DROPPED: A Los Angeles judge has dismissed a lawsuit against California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, 56, by a former stuntwoman who said the actor sexually assaulted her and then implied she was a prostitute, reports Reuters. Superior Court Judge Robert Hess ruled that at the time she sued Schwarzenegger for libel last year, Rhonda Miller, now 54, was a public figure not afforded the same privacy protection as members of the general public.
WITHHELD: The Red Hot Chili Peppers, fronted by Anthony Kiedis, will release their first live album, Live in Hyde Park, a double-disc, 27-track set recorded over three nights in London last month. Only snag, reports Billboard: The CD will not be released in North America. No explanation was given.
BORN: Kenny Rogers, 65, and his wife, Wanda, are the parents of identical twin boys, born Tuesday morning in Atlanta, according to a spokeswoman for the singer. Justin Charles weighed 6 lbs. 10 oz., and his brother, Jordan Edward, 5 lbs. 8 oz. Wanda Rogers is an identical twin, and twins also run in Kenny Rogers's family. The proud new papa already has three children from previous marriages.
REVIVED: Tanner '88, a satirical political miniseries that aired on HBO and was directed by Robert Altman (M*A*S*H) and written by Doonesbury cartoonist Garry Trudeau, has spawned Tanner '04, to air for three episodes in October on the Sundance channel, reports the New York Post. Altman and Trudeau are onboard, as is Sex and the City alum Cynthia Nixon, 38, who'll play a documentary filmmaker – despite her looking absolutely nothing like Michael Moore.
