Donald Trump proved to be anything but fired up at Sunday's $500,000 American Century celebrity golf championship at Nevada's Lake Tahoe.

The New York real-estate mogul and star of NBC's The Apprentice finished 56th in his debut at the sporting event, saying afterwards that he didn't expect the competition to be so fierce.

"They are all great athletes, very, very good golfers. I was surprised at the level. The level is very, very high," said Trump, 58, as quoted by the Associated Press.

Also sharing the green: former basketball greats Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley, TV personalities Maury Povich and Ahmad Rashad, former "Hercules" star actor Kevin Sorbo, comedian Kevin Nealon and tennis champ Pete Sampras.

But it was former NHL star Dan Quinn's birdie on the final hole helped him win the contest.

Not that Trump, even at 56th, was the only player to lag behind.

Said Barkley after draining a 20-foot putt on his ninth hole of the day: "Another ho-hum par. I'm just letting them get overconfident right now. I'll make my move on the back side."

Not quite. Barkley ended up tying for third worst.
