"We're delighted to be in business with Rosie again, and we are honored that she is entrusting this documentary – which explores true family values and celebrates difference – to HBO," the pay-cable network's documentary/family president Sheila Nevins said.
"The gay family cruise gives children a chance to be among others in like circumstances," Nevins added, according to Variety.
R Family's first cruise, which took place July 11-18, saw 500 families board the Norwegian Dawn for a voyage from New York to the Bahamas.
"It was an amazing week. In seven days, 1,600 people became a community," the O'Donnells said in a statement.
O'Donnell's credits for HBO (which, like PEOPLE, is part of Time Warner) include an HBO Comedy Hour stand-up special and an Emmy-nominated family special, Rosie O'Donnell's Kids Are Punny.
