Olsens Arrive in New York to Start School
SETTLED: As PEOPLE reports in its current issue, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, both 18, made the trip from Los Angeles to New York this weekend, as they prepare to start school at New York University. Though their multimillion-dollar Greenwich Village penthouse isn't finished (they will be renting a plush pad nearby), the twins were busy this weekend with shopping sprees uptown, at Hermes and Barneys, and a stop at the restaurant Pastis, as evidenced by photos in local papers. They also bought some furniture and back-to-school supplies.
CAST: Everybody Loves Raymond star Ray Romano, 46, will play a San Fernando Valley meat salesman in his next film, Grilled, costarring fellow CBS sitcom king Kevin James, 39, of The King of Queens. To train for his role, Romano tells the Associated Press he met "a great guy named Sonny, who is the best salesman in California. We had a meat-ology class with him, and I kind of took things from him for my character." The movie is due next summer. ... Former Suddenly Susan star Brooke Shields will replace Tony winner Donna Murphy in the Broadway musical revival of Wonderful Town on Sept. 28. Shields, 39, previously took over for Rosie O'Donnell as Rizzo in the long-running revival of Grease and played Sally Bowles in the latest revival of Cabaret.
URGED: Former Saturday Night Live comic and New Jersey native Joe Piscopo, 53, tells CNN he's being pressured by "young, very concerned New Jersey citizens" to make a run for the Statehouse in the wake of Gov. James E. McGreevey's resignation and acknowledgment of a sex scandal. Piscopo, who calls himself a friend of McGreevey's, has not decided whether he'll toss his hat into the ring.
ANTICIPATED: Amber Frey, 29, the former mistress of Scott Peterson and the prosecution's star witness in his double-murder trial, is expected to announce her engagement to Dr. David Markovich, 44, a Fresno, Calif., chiropractor and the father of her 4-month-old son, Frey's and Markovich's fathers both confirm to the New York Post. Her dad says the doc plans to pop the question once the trial is over.
