A spokeswoman for the princes' residence, Clarence House, tells CNN: "William and Harry will be spending the day privately."
Their father, Prince Charles, who was divorced from Diana at the time of her death, was spending Tuesday at Birkhall on the Balmoral Estate in Scotland.
Floral tributes were gathering outside Diana's former home Kensington Palace to mark the anniversary, though nothing like the "flower mountain" that grew at the time of her death and funeral.
A spokeswoman for Historic Royal Palaces said of Diana's former home: "A handful of bouquets and posies are there already but it's not as many as last year. Kensington Palace has noticed that it's getting fewer and fewer every year."
The British Press Association also reports that there are no plans for any commemorative ceremonies at the beleaguered Hyde Park Diana memorial fountain that has been beset by drainage and safety problems since it opened last month.
