COSTUMED: Serena Williams, 22, turned heads at Monday's kickoff of the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. – and it wasn't just for her tennis. The champ was outfitted in a Gladiator-style blue denim Nike miniskirt, jeweled tanktop and, the most odd touch of all, black sneaker go-go boots. Celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch tells New York's Daily News: "She brings a style and a sizzle to tennis that we haven't seen before ... (a look) that is really fun." Williams easily beat first-round opponent Sandra Kleinova of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-3.

SCHEDULED: Four guests hosts have been lined up to sit in the Late Late Show host seat vacated last Friday by Craig Kilborn. The void is currently being filled by repeats. Starting Sept. 20, Ed actor Michael Ian Black, The Hughleys star D.L. Hughley, writer-comic Amy Sedaris and sports talk host Jim Rome will rotate on the CBS program, say reports.

BORN: CNN anchor Soledad O'Brien, 37, gave birth to twin boys Monday, reports the Associated Press. Charlie was born at 6:23 p.m. and Jackson came four minutes later. Jackson, at 7 lbs. 2 oz., outweighed his brother by an ounce. The New York-based O'Brien and husband Brad Raymond have two daughters: Sofia, 3, and Cecilia, 2.

DEPARTED: Golden Globe nominee Bitty Schram, 36, will not be returning to USA's Monk in her role as Sharona, the nurse and assistant to the obsessive-compulsive detective played by Tony Shalhoub. "Monk has decided to go in a different creative direction with some of its characters," a USA spokesman said. A statement from Schram's management firm called the split amicable.
