Nicole Kidman, who invoked the name of her pal Russell Crowe when she tried to compose herself during her Oscar acceptance speech last year, may now get the chance to work with her fellow actor from Down Under.
Kidman, 37, is in talks to join the Gladiator Oscar winner, as well as Shine Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush, in director Jocelyn Moorhouse's adaptation of Murray Bail's novel Eucalyptus, reports Variety.
Set in New South Wales, the story revolves around a widower (Rush) who announces that his beautiful daughter (Kidman) can only marry the man who can identify each of the hundreds of species of eucalyptus trees overwhelming the grounds of his estate.
The daughter, however, only has eyes for a mysterious New Zealander (Crowe) who has enchanted her with a tale to correspond with each eucalyptus tree.
Production would begin next year, should all three actors be available, says the trade paper.
Meanwhile, Kidman, who has just finished director Sydney Pollack's The Interpreter, costarring Sean Penn, is currently filming director Nora Ephron's widescreen adaptation of the '60s TV sitcom Bewitched with Will Ferrell.
She also could have used some Samantha-like magic to twitch her nose and make the paparazzi disappear in Paris last Friday, when she was swarmed as she showed up at a press event in her new role as spokesmodel for Chanel No. 5.
Ironically, in a new, two-minute commercial for Chanel directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge), Kidman flees a similar throng of camera-bearing pests.
