Out & About with Ashley Olsen
While twin sis Mary-Kate attended to some "personal business" at home in L.A., Ashley Olsen kept up her New York socializing, hanging out on a recent night with Jack Osbourne and a few other friends at New York hotspot Bungalow 8. She bobbed her head constantly to the music (mouthing the words to Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?"), chewed gum and listlessly tapped her fingers on the table. On the way out with a few female friends, she paused to hug the waiter. Soon-to-be Nicky Hilton ex Todd Meister arrived and went over to greet Osbourne, but he didn't stay at the table. Also at the club earlier that night (for a party thrown by former Gucci designer Tom Ford): The O.C. star Mischa Barton, in a black V-neck dress and red silk Louis Vuitton pumps, and rockers Dave Navarro and John Mellencamp.
After singer Paulina Rubio finished hosting MTV's VMA Latin America ceremony at Miami's Jackie Gleason Theater on Thursday night, she kept it going for the official afterparty, held at hotspot Mansion. But nearby at club Joia, another afterparty rocked on as well. The Black Eyed Peas took to the stage, performing from 1 a.m. until 2:30 and ending with their hit song "Let's Get It Started." The group invited others to come up onstage and sing or play an instrument with them, and plenty of local talent did just that (some of which was captured by MTV cameras for an upcoming reality show). Meanwhile, downstairs, Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova cozied up together on a couch, enjoying a few drinks before calling it a night.
Susan Sarandon, Edie Falco, Rita Wilson and Molly Sims have been crafty lately, for a good cause: They've been designing blocks for the "Quilts of Inspiration," a breast cancer awareness quilt. "Unfortunately we all know way too many women who are affected by breast cancer," says Sims. "The Quilts of Inspiration is such a warm and comforting symbol and method to help raise awareness and ultimately save our grandmothers, our mothers, our sisters and ourselves." Sopranos star Falco, who recently disclosed that she has fought her own battle with breast cancer, had a personal message to put on her quilt square: "You are not alone." ABC's The View joined with Quilted Northern Bath Tissue and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to create the quilt, which was sewn together by a team of professional quilters. The massive result will be unveiled on the show Monday, and it will go on to be auctioned online with proceeds benefiting the foundation.
Caught in the Act
Stage Beauty costar Rupert Everett, hanging out at New York nightspot Crobar. Also in the club that night: Boy George.
Sarah Jessica Parker, singing to son James Wilkie on a sidewalk in New York's West Village.
Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood, at a preview screening of horror flick Saw at L.A.'s Archlight Theater. He hung out in the lobby with a group of people after the film, and was very nice to approaching fans.
